Harcourt Interactive Textbooks

Background

Harcourt School Publishers approached Vertex with a request to develop interactive online editions of their elementary school reading textbooks. The goal was to provide an engaging digital learning experience for students while facilitating reading intervention for those facing challenges in mastering reading skills.

Problem

  • Converting print textbooks into interactive online editions.
  • Developing an online Book Viewer application using Adobe Flash.
  • Creating a reading intervention software to assist students with reading difficulties.
  • Meeting an accelerated production schedule to deliver online stories for state school board review.

Solution Provided

Neurogistics partnered with Vertex to develop an expert system, the M2 Institute, aimed at providing accurate, automated dosing recommendations. This system combines a patient’s lab data with health history from an online wellness profile, offering personalized supplement regimens.

The M2 Institute utilizes a simple at-home test kit and an e-health profile to gather crucial patient data, employing fuzzy logic knowledge bases and rule sets to evaluate and render dosing recommendations.
